FIXIEGIRL / Margaux Salamat

Her dream is to become a Paramedic and would love to save one's life, especially the cyclists.

Margaux is one of the names mentioned when I asked my friends over my Facebook page to suggest some FIXIEGIRLS that I can cover for my next feature. When I saw her profile I immediately checked her photos, and I thought she has this great character with a really good style specially on her bike.

It’s been a month now since we had our photo shoot. As far as I can remember we struggled to look for a great spot around Guiguinto, Bulacan. We went to Plaridel Memorial Park, as she suggested. But upon arriving, it’s already closed for public visit.

We almost lose our hope in finding a good location and we really can’t decide where to go next. So we pedal back a few meters away from the park and noticed this beautiful landscape before NLEX Sta. Rita Exit, so we decided to just do our photo shoot there and be extra careful because of the heavy trucks passing by the lane.

About Margaux

Margaux or Margo is a 17 year-old Grade 12 student from Marcelo H. del Pilar National High School located in Malolos, Bulacan. As per Margo, she is currently in Section A, so I guess she is really doing well in school. Apart from being busy with her studies, she tries to balance her time in spending it with her family as well as with her friends and riding her bike.

She told me that her Father is calm and supports her in everything she do, but her Mother is more furious every time she is off with her bike because of the danger of riding a fixed-gear. Her dream is to become a Paramedic and would love to save one’s life, especially the cyclists.

Nagagalit lagi sa akin nanay ko pag nag-bibike ako, pero alam ko sinusuportahan niya ko, in a way na binibilan niya ako ng mga long sleeves and she is also proud kasi pinagmamalaki niya din ako sa mga amiga niya.

"I do well with boyyyys. :--)"

I thought she loved the color pink, but she told me it’s not her favorite color.

I don’t really love the color pink. Coincidence lang lahat ng gamit na dumadating sa akin eh, pink. Kaya pinanindigan ko na. Pero white talaga gusto ko.

"I'm a competitive person but I don't want the feeling of losing."

How young were you when you started riding a bike?

When I was 12 years old siguro nag-bibike na ako, mga ganoong age din ako nabaragan ng ngipin (left front tooth) kasi ‘di sukat yung bike sa akin, aksidenteng tumama sa bars. As far as I can remember, MTB or Roadbike ng tatay ko gamit ko.

Will you see yourself shifting to a different bike in the future?

Maybe not shifting, pero trying or having different bikes, para sa akin kasi, once you love riding a bike, kahit anong type pa ng bike yan mahal o gusto mo ‘yan.

Have you joined any fixed-gear related competitions? If so, how was it?

Actually, hindi pa. I’m a competitive person but I don’t want the feeling of losing. I’m still looking forward na makalaro sa drag sprint and criterium. Pero I’ll make sure na champion (charot yabang ko).

“work until your idols, become your rivals” Ika nga, at gusto ko din sundan ang yapak ni Ate Marella Salamat (we’re not related, but we have the same surname so we’re sisturs na). I also want to represent District One Fixed Gear, and Malolos as well sa lahat ng fixed-gear competitions na lalaruan ko.

Who influenced you to get yourself a fixed-gear bike?

“fuck!!! Eto ba yung fixed gear??”

She learned more about fixed-gear bikes from her special friend, Denzel Pineda.
